During the first part of 2006, Argentine professional golf has achieved a constant and continuous growth thanks to the hierarchical job that PGA from Argentina has carried out. PGA from Argentina is a union entity in which activity workers are integrated with the purpose of having legal tools to rule our job nationwide.
The Professors Golfers Association of Argentina, which was created on December 18, 1990 as an accepted union entity was established to cover the lack of defence and representation of both individual and collective interests of workers before the employers and the Government.
Gilberto Devia, creator and founder, together with a small group expressed his gratitude towards all those who believed in his ideas and in the extents that these might undergo in order to give new and positive changes within golf in Argentina, an activity that has existed for more than a hundred years in our country.
However, his project started at the beginning of the 70’s, after the end of a contract relationship, which has been considered as the origin of the golf world. That gave birth to a secret illusion that would be channelled for the first time in the year 1987, when he created and founded the Comprehensive School of Golf and Department for Trainers at The Professional Golfers Association of Argentina, Escuela Integral de Golf y el Departamento de Instructores en la Asociación Argentina de Profesionales del Golf de Socorros Mutuos. His “everything or nothing” brave attitude had an answer and the Board of Directors of the AAPG appointed him president.
1991 marks one of the greatest milestones of Argentina´s PGA, with the beginning of the first course year at the "Escuela Nacional de Golf para Profesores", The National Golf School for Teachers, on the third Monday of march of the same year. That very tradition has been kept until the present day. This results in 16 years of optimization, aiming at the best professional training in the field.
Another important conquest of our organization was represented by the holding of the trademark of PGA de Argentina® in the last decade. This allows us to distinguish the identity of the brand both nationally and internationally.
The Professional Golfers Association of America, by means of a letter signed by their director Rich Williams, in May 1991, welcomed and congratulated Gilberto Devia on the creation of Argentina´s PGA.
Through a different document, he was invited to participate as one of the members of the first PGA World Congress held in September of 1995, countersigned in addition by Jim Awtrey as rep of PGA of America, and Sandy Jones, for PGA of Great Britain and Ireland. Such event showed the international recognition of our association. Everything above mentioned was further added to when PGA of Argentina was considered an active member of the Allied Associations List. PGA of Europe and Asian PGA also join the list, backing and completing the framework of the highest professional golf associations, which recognize PGA of Argentina as a world class institution.-
